30 Days, 30 Inks: Day 4
Day 4: Troublemaker Purple Yam
This is one of my favorite current inks. I have a TWSBI GO inked up with this, but to keep the writing consistent in the notebook for #30days30inks, I dipped my Leonardo MZ with a long blade nib.
Anyway, you may quip, “this isn’t purple!” which was my thought also, upon first swatching the ink. I was expecting a deep purple-magenta similar to the bright color of ube desserts. But this ink seems to be highlighting the deeper blue that’s a component of the purple yam color. At any rate, despite the slightly confusing name, I love the rich purpley-blue/bluey-purple hues of this ink. Great shading. The ink feels slightly dry on the Traveler’s notebook lightweight paper, as it probably would on Tomoe River. On my Regalia paper notebook it doesn’t feel as dry, but that’s par for the course for Regalia.
“Carry a notebook and a pen with you wherever you go. Get used to pulling it out and jotting down your thoughts and observations. Copy your favorite passages out of books. Record overheard conversations. Doodle when you’re on the phone.”
This quote from Steal Like an Artist helped me decide to make my passport-sized Traveler’s Notebook into a commonplace book of sorts where I copied interesting, inspiring, insightful, or funny quotes and sometimes pasted relevant pictures. I don’t really carry it with me wherever I go, but it’s always nearby at home.
