Diamine Inkvent 2023, Day 11
The Ink
Day 11: Glacier - Star Bright
Oooh, the first (only?) “Star Bright” ink in the set! Star Bright is a new ink type that Diamine introduced for this year. I did not realize that they replace sheening inks with the “star bright” type. Some of the chameleon or scented inks also have sheening, so it’s not like sheening inks are completely gone from this year’s batch. Anyway, Glacier is a medium, translucent aqua blue with a metric ton of chunky silver shimmer.
You can see how much Glacier looks like a lighter blue with the shimmer incorporated, versus when you let the ink sit and sample the base color only (well, some shimmer still shows up, but much, much less). It’s an okay light, dusky, sort of aqua blue. Nice enough, but not that exciting without the shimmer.
I have a very old sample of Dominant Industry Pearl Glacier. Its blue is a lot brighter and more aqua, while its shimmer is more of a silver metallic “sheen”, (not in the sense of fountain pen ink sheen) rather than large silver shimmer particles.
I also have a recent sample of a Vanness exclusive ink from Vinta Inks called Kislap. Its base color is more transparent and has some pink tones, but its bright aqua shimmer has a similar effect as Diamine Glacier’s chunky shimmer.
(Somewhat annoyingly, all of my Vinta ink samples with shimmer have gone clumpy, as in the shimmer particles are clumping instead of being regularly distributed throughout the liquid, despite strong agitation. There’s no mold or anything, the shimmer is just misbehaving. 🙄 Has anyone experienced this? I’d hate to think how this would affect ink flow in a pen.)
The Quote
Today’s quote/scene is another from Schitt’s Creek, “Merry Christmas, Johnny Rose”:
Patrick: Are we supposed to be doing anything for this party?
David: Um, yes, decorations, but even if we could still afford Nate Berkus, I’d burned that bridge in Ibiza.
Patrick: Okay, but we have plenty of decorations here, so.
David: Yeah, that are for sale. We’re not just giving away our inventory.
Stevie. Wow. So what time is the Ghost of Christmas Past coming to visit you tonight?
Patrick: Ooh, burn, David!
It was kind of annoying to transcribe this scene with a dip pen because I had to constantly shake up the bottle to get the shimmer, and even then, you can see the ink didn’t cling well to the nib, so the writing looks inconsistent. I’m not sure how well this would work in a pen, given the ton of shimmer, but at least it would be easier to agitate a pen every few words than capping and agitating a bottle multiple times while writing.
