30 Days, 30 Inks: Day 27
The Ink
Day 27: Diamine Ancient Copper
This is another fall ink that I bought a sample of after seeing some recommendations. I knew of the ink and had seen it before, but it didn’t appeal previously, thanks to my ink color preferences for blues, purples, and grays over most reds and browns. This reddish-brown ink really had no chance.
But of course, as with many of the fall inks I’ve started using this season, the seasonal time really put me in the mood for warm reds, yellows, oranges, and browns. It evokes a pile of some crunchy, drying, red-brown, fallen oak leaves. I really do miss seeing all the trees around me awash in autumn colors, which is not as much of a thing here in northern California. The weather is nice, but the tradeoff is experiencing “proper” seasons as I was used to in the Midwest.
Anyway, as ever, Diamine is great at making inks that match their namesakes. I haven’t checked, but I wonder if they have a “new copper” ink color that would have more bright rosy, pinky shades as opposed to the dark brown-red of Ancient Copper? I imagine this ink appeals to people who like their writing to look weathered and sepia-toned, especially if they’re doing calligraphy. It would go great on yellowed parchment. 🙂
The Quote
“Whatever excites you, go do it. Whatever drains you, stop doing it.”
- Derek Sivers
Oh, how I wish we lived in a world where this simple decision-making framework could be easily followed. But dumb adult responsibilities exist that prevent most of us from saying no to whatever drains us, and yes to exciting stuff to do. Yes, people can make the argument that you can mold your life in such a way to make this happen, but it doesn’t always work out, sadly. It’s still a good quote to aspire to as much as possible, though.
