30 Days, 30 Inks: Day 10
The Ink
Day 10: Robert Oster Burgundy Chocolate Notes
This ink is an odd beast. The name tells you it has burgundy and chocolate notes. But the combo of these two color families makes this ink feel like a chameleon. In bright daylight, you can see more of the burgundy, dusky rose, plummy shades. Later on in the day, the browner tones overtake the burgundy, making it kind of look like chocolate milk. I like drinking chocolate milk, but not necessarily writing with it! 😝 I prefer when I can see the purpley shades. I will continue to experiment with my nibs to see which one allows the plum colors to shine through more consistently.
The Quote
It’s so important to have a hobby. A hobby is something creative that’s just for you. You don’t try to make money or get famous off it, you just do it because it makes you happy. A hobby is something that gives but doesn’t take.
I have mixed feelings about this notion. I totally get where Austin is coming from: The hobby is supposed to be this regenerative source of creative freedom that “fills your cup” so that you can work on other things that you can then earn from (if that’s your goal). But there’s that quote that says something like, “do what you love and you won’t work a day in your life”. There are plenty of people who spin doing what they love into a successful career. And there are others who start to hate that thing they used to do for fun because they made it into their job. I guess it’s a matter of saving a piece of “doing what you love” that is only for your fulfillment so that it doesn’t become a grind that ruins your passion.
