30 Days, 30 Inks: Day 9

Ame No Ne is a medium blue-gray color. I tried to color correct the image to match real-life appearance as much as possible.

The Ink

Day 9: Sailor x Ancora Ame No Ne (“sound of rain”)

This ink has a special origin story. I randomly read a post on Reddit about an ink sold in Tokyo only when it’s raining out (read more here). I can’t remember how I came across this post because it was fairly old when I read it. Regardless, this was such a quirky fact that it stuck in my brain. When a friend of mine said he would be in Japan for about a month, I told him about the ink as an aside. Luckily he had the opportunity to go to the Ancora in Ginza on a rainy day and picked it up for me!

Ordinarily, because I was big into shimmers, I thought I might not care for this ink that much beyond the fact that it was a thoughtful gift from Japan. It’s a regular, shading blue with no shimmer, no chromoshading, no quirky gimmicks. However, its rainy, “cloudy”, blue-gray color was strangely appealing compared to all of the “loud” inks I’d been using previously. I really liked looking at it on paper. I think this might’ve been the dusky ink that got me into my dusky ink phase in the first place. 🙂 It’s a well-behaved Sailor ink, so I don’t think you’ll have problems in any pen, any nib width.

I don’t know what’ll happen when I run out of it, but I’m not really tearing through any of my inks with alarming speed, so it’s not a problem I’ll have to deal with for a while!

The Quote

Don’t throw any of yourself away.

If you have two or three real passions, don’t feel like you have to pick and choose between them. Don’t discard. Keep all your passions in your life.

I have a lot of interests besides fountain pens, even though my current slate of blog posts doesn’t seem to indicate that. 😅 Many of you know I’m into all kinds of tech (especially mobile tech), photography, art, gaming, books, movies, etc. I often get overwhelmed by everything I would like to do/read/make related to any one of these interest areas that I instead do nothing. 😐 Of course, recently, I’ve been pouring all of my efforts into fountain pen-related activities, but I would like to balance it out with going on photo walks and trying to compile a book of my photos, reading books from my never-ending “to read” pile, playing games from my huge backlog, and on, and on, and on. How do you all split time among your different passions? I don’t think I’ll ever create a system to fully balance among my interests, but I’ll keep trying.

Behind the Scenes

Previously I was dipping my Leonardo Momento Zero to write out the quotes because I had fitted it with one of my Kaigelu long blade nibs. However, it was annoying to clean the nib and feed after every entry, especially when I decided to use a shimmer ink for the last post. It dawned on me that I could try putting one of my other long blade nibs on my Kakimori nib holder, and lo, the nib fit! I don’t know why I doubted it; I have a Kakimori dip nib that literally looks like a fountain pen nib. :smh: Anyway, below you can see how the nib looks in the holder, fits like a glove! This will make cleaning much easier from now on. Plus, writing with this combo makes me feel fancy and/or like I’m in olden times. 😅
