30 Days, 30 Inks: Day 15
The Ink
Day 15: Inkvent 2022 - Diamine Silent Night
As a short aside on Inkvent, it gave me more “usable” inks than I originally thought. At first, I was disappointed there weren’t more shimmer and chameleon inks, since I was super into those at the time (well, still am, but I’ve settled down a bit). But a lot of the standard inks have turned out to be quite nice, like the dusky inks I’ve selected for this series. I’m definitely getting Inkvent again this year, as it was a fun activity to open, swatch, and play around with a new ink every day, leading up to Christmas.
As for Silent Night, revisiting this ink has shown it’s a nice, albeit quite dark, dusky blue-gray. It might kind of look boring in most nibs since all you’ll see is the very dark version of the ink, but perhaps if you could find a drier nib, more of the shading would come out? It’s worth experimenting with. At the very least it’s a dark, cool blue-gray that’s on the more “professional” side, if you’re looking for that kind of ink.
The Quote
Be nice. (The world is a small town.)
Make friends. Ignore enemies.
You’re only going to be as good as the people you surround yourself with.
I would make a slight wording change from “be nice” to “be kind”, as sometimes being nice is a very shallow politeness that still hides nastiness or malice behind a front. But in general, I agree with the sentiment. I drafted a few responses to this snippet but deleted them because I didn’t want to get into a whole “sermon” about civility online and whatnot. That’s not what this series is about. Anyway, this is a very simple reminder to cultivate kindness and goodness around you for other’s sake, for your sake, and for your creative endeavor’s sake. Wherever you can, try to elevate positivity and pay it forward to combat the increasingly negative and malicious attitudes that are unfortunately so normalized today. /sermon 😅
