30 Days, 30 Inks: Day 7

Day 7: Sailor Yurameku Date Gokoro

I love this ink. It looks so nice on papers like Tomoe River. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have the same look on Regalia paper (what’s in my current journal), so I haven’t been using it much currently as a result. That’s a main characteristic of Yurameku inks: They look differently on different kinds of paper, I think based on the chemical reaction with the paper and whatever coating it may have, and perhaps the paper’s pH?

I was concerned that I might have a “twin ink” situation like with Jacques Herbin Poussière de Lune and Rohrer & Klingner Alt-Bordeaux. I remember thinking that Robert Oster Muddy Crown from day 1 reminded me of Date Gokoro, but now that I have seen them together, Date Gokoro is a warmer version of the “blurple” base shade. It’s that warm, golden or orangey (??) sheen/undertone that appeals to me so much when I see the ink on Tomoe River or this Traveler’s Company lightweight paper.

“The work you do while you procrastinate is probably the work you should be doing for the rest of your life.” - Jessica Hische

This quote feels quite profound to me. When I first came across it, I immediately copied it into my quote/commonplace book. I have thought about this a fair amount, especially now as I’m pivoting to a different career path. I won’t get into it now, but this quote does continue to spur on conversations with myself to figure out what that work is. How about you?

Here’s a close up of the ink swatch, showing that warm sheen, whose color I can’t quite place
